My heart beat: 2010 - Feb 14, 2026
Favorite Memories
Every day with you was a gift. You were supposed to be a short visitor, to see if I could handle the commitment of a cat or dog level pet. You spent the first night in the corner under the bed meowing every 10 minutes on the dot so neither of us slept...and my roommate likely did not as well. But after the week, you became a fixture in my life living literally in the same room => studio => actual apartments.
We got you a brother because we were worried you would be alone during our long work hours. You hated him and got physically sick but you later accepted him begrudgingly. While you clearly loved your space, you were the first to come purring if I was having and off or bad day. You quietly guarded my transition of schools, cities, professions, men, and houses. No house was a home without you settled in and approving, after all.
When your original dad broke up with me and came to take you back to his city, you stood between us and hunched up your back like he was a threat and hissed at him. You chose to stay with me, my princess...even if you had not shown favorites until then. Can people who never had a pet understand the transcendence you feel when an independent judgemental animal unequivocally chooses you?
“You left paw prints on my heart.”
You converted your grandparents who used to say that cats are magical demons...not to annoy you or you would take revenge. Oh, did they learn when they saw how you tolerated being taken to bed and waiting a full 15-20 minutes for me to fall asleep before escaping... the day you hid between the desk and the wall and got STUCK...causing the whole family to panic until we heard you weakly meow. In the end, your grandma would sometimes call me by your name.
You were always there. FOMO could only last so long when you have a judging white furrball in the room or snuggling up close to you. When opening ANY can meant that you would teleport near... It was literally impossible to feel lonely no matter what was happening in life.
Hearing you purr could make any day. A little mound of white fur was so common place in my life that I would do a double check if I saw something soft and white in any friend's living room. Waking up to seeing you at the foot of my bed sleeping like an exhausted company man is a high that is hard to chase.
You were the the most lovable serial killer. You never had to hunt for food but like a true boss, you would terrorize and play with any tiny life forms that entered our home making it convenient for the human staff. And you purred so affrontedly if we put any of the bugs you caught (that were going back and forth in a dizzy half - assaulted manner between your paws) out of their misery.
They say to know a person, you can look at their pet. And, Love, I must be a confident unbothered queen that hates the outdoors or moving unless it brings me food.
Everyone who came to our home knew it was yours and your brother's home that I just lived in... My Love, everyone knew you two were in my will. Because, for the briefest years, I had hoped you would live as long as I did or longer.
When you first got diagnosed with chronic kidney disease in 2022, I was so scared. But you fought through and stabilized at early Stage 2!
When you first got diagnosed with small cell lymphoma in 2023, I thought my world would fall apart. But you fought through and stabilized to where we could decrease your chemo pills as you appeared to be in remission in Dec 2024.
Over 3 years since the initial diagosis, you started to decline again. We had no idea and we did get screwed over by your oncology team who grossly negligently did not review your quarterly bloodwork for 2.5 weeks until you had crashed...
My love, you fought so well for so long. And, since you knew I was in a different state for the long weekend, you fought again in the ER. When I could not let you go and opted to try for the SUB bypass surgery, you came through like a BOSS. Your kidney values on IV even went back down to 5.5 surprising everyone... When you declined quickly at home, the team was not so sure. But you rallied again to 6.6 on fluids.
In the end, there was too much damage and complications but you gave mommy 21 extra days to say goodbye after fighting over 3.5 years as a geriatric baby granny of 15-16 years old.
I am so thankful for the time we were gifted.
But, it still feels too short. As FelineCRF aptly quotes: "The pain I feel now is the happiness I had before. That’s the deal." - Shadowlands. You have left too big of a job for Lupin to cover also.
We love you, Princess Yuna.
Yuna, My Love.
Yuna, My Heart.
If reincarnation is real, I hope God blesses my life again by sending you to me again.
Until, we meet again, my Love.
